Four Deetlefs Wines Score High In 2020 Tim Atkin SA Report

The Deetlefs team is proud to share that four wines from Deetlefs Wine Estate have scored 90 points or more in the latest 2020 Tim Atkin SA Report which was released recently. These include:

  • Deetlefs Chenin Blanc Reserve 2019 – 92 Points
  • Deetlefs Semillon 2019 – 91 Points
  • Deetlefs Signature Viognier 2019 – 91 Points
  • Deetlefs Voyage 3566.1 2019 – 91 Points

Atkin’s report is normally based on two visits he makes to the Western Cape annually but, due to Covid-19 restrictions, he was unable to travel to the winelands from his home in the UK and instead he tasted 1,328 wines in London and conducted over 50 Zoom calls.  While this year’s report is shorter than usual, Atkin believes it still presents an accurate and useful overview of the South African wine scene.

“These are very difficult times for many people in the Cape wine industry, so I hope that my report, now in its eighth edition, will provide a chink of light and some much needed focus on the best South African wines. I sincerely hope that the reviews and scores in my report, as well as the Medals of Excellence given to producers whose wines have scored more than 90 points, will ensure that more people are made aware of the outstanding quality of South African wines. Chenin Consistency

20 June 2020 Chenin Blanc lovers across the world will celebrate International Drink Chenin Day. A questions we receive on a regular basis is what makes Deetlefs Estate Chenin Blanc range unique from other wine estates.

Deetlefs Reserve Chenin Blanc 2018 awarded TOP score

Deetlefs Reserve Chenin Blanc 2018 was recently awarded a top score of 90+ by the Wine Advocate.

The Wine Advocate, fully known as the Robert Parker Wine Advocate, is a bimonthly wine publication based in the United States featuring the consumer advice of wine critic Robert M. Parker, Jr.

“The 2018 Chenin Blanc begins with aromas of fresh citrus and almond skin, with a pineapple and peach core that is lifted by hints of sweet oak spices. Medium-bodied, the palate is spicy and straightforward across the mid-palate and concludes with a nish that leaves me wanting a touch more complexity and depth of expression.”
